name dropper: LCF takes on New Look

OMGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!

So it seems that this project between New Look and LCF footwear students have been going on for a few months now, and they are (I believe) in the judging process of this project. What this is is a collaboration between the school and the UK brand, wear students are given a chance to design the new collection.

Okay, so why am I so excited? Well, I've been a huge fan of New Look for a while now, because of its affordable prices as well as the fact that they've always been on top of the new fashion trends each season. And as for LCF? That will be MY SCHOOL this fall! So you can see my excitement when I see that there are opportunities like these presented. Anyway, here's a sneak peek:

I really hope the "Splash" heels make it =)

name dropper: piperlime joins project runway team

If you are as devoted to fashion as you claim to be, then Project Runway is to you what Next Top Model is for aspiring wannabe models. Joining the likes of previous sponsors such as (if I'm not mistaken) Bluefly.com and Macy's is Piperlime, an online store that sells a range of men's and kid's shoes, as well as women's shoes/accessories and apparel.

Stocked with shoes from a range of designers - Steve Madden, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren to name a few, I think Piperlime working as the new sponsor for the show could be quite promising for the future contestants in terms of choice and style.
However, one thing I am worried about is the target audience Piperline is intended for - a quick browse through their women's shoes and accessories section gives me the general idea that this store sells to women of a certain class and age, which I can foresee a certain clash of accessories with the sometimes edgy designs contestants on Project Runway come up with. Nevertheless, I'm still excited for the season 8 to start!

hot hot hot: havaianas + threadless.com

It's finally here! The long-anticipated collaboration between popular Brazilian flip-flop brand, Havaianas, and online t-shirt store, threadless.com, launched its line on July 12th, 2010. This limited-edition line of flip-flops consists of six original designs that have been voted by the online Threadless community. Matching t-shirt designs are available as well!

Pictures taken from threadless.com.

You can find all 6 of the designs here.

mirror, mirror: side braids

In the midst of summer, I thought it would be appropriate to showcase what seems to be an uprising hairstyle: the side braid. I know many of you are, much like I am, tired of the overdone messy boho braids that Nicole Richie has sported one too many times. But no, this time it's different. Forget the thin, delicate Bali braids - thick, chunky braids are here to kick your ass.

Here is where the magic first started: Alexander Wang's Spring 2010 show. Seen wearing extensions, seems like the chunkier and messier the braid is, the better.

Harper's Bazaar bigshot, Joanna Hillman comes with a more polished look, but still loose enough to pull together her classic-meets-edgy look.

Rom-com sweetheart, Amanda Seyfried, rocks a side braid to her Letters to Juliet premiere.

What do you think? Will this look last?
I personally can't wait to throw on a summer dress and braid my hair.

hello, my name is michelle.

I've thought long and hard about what my first post of this blog would be - one that I would smile at years from now when I feel nostalgic and turn back to my very first post. I finally decided to write about my second love, the city, because to write about fashion (my true love, no doubt) and all its worth is perhaps too blase and unappetizing to a regular fashion blogger. I say this because amongst the thousands of bloggers yearning to become as famous as Jane Aldridge (seaofshoes) or Tavi Gevinson (thestylerookie), telling the world how much I love fashion in a simple blog post would be an understatement.

Ah yes, the city. Filled with magic and energy, hope and audacity, it is the one true place I find inspiration. Spend one night in the city and you can find a young hipster dressed in a plaid sweater and a top hat, and shy secretary in tulle and chain necklaces. This is why I love the city - it is the only place where people find the courage to express themselves.

Why is that?
